Transportation Minister Orders Completion of Priority Programs in Early 2018
Jakarta. Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi on Wednesday (27/12) ordered officials at the ministry to complete its "quick win" priority programs in the first two months of the new year.
The programs are under the ministry's directorates of land transportation, sea transportation, air transportation and railways, the ministry said in a statement.
In land transportation, the projects are related to privatization of weighbridges. In sea transportation, the ministry's "Smart Port" program synchronizing operations at Jakarta's Tanjung Priok Port must be implemented as soon as possible for the sake of transparency, eradication of illegal levies and cheaper services.
The directorate general of air transportation must finalize the privatization of Tjilik Riwut Airport in Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan.
The directorate general of railways was ordered to prepare the management of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) system in South Sumatra, which should start operations before the 2018 Asean Games. In Jakarta, the ministry officials must speed up the implementation of Transit Oriented Development (TOD) at the Dukuh Atas train station.
"I request all top officials to make a maximum effort to fulfill [my] directives in the first two months of 2018," Budi said.
During a ceremony inaugurating 66 new ministry officials, Budi also encouraged his staff to cooperate more with young entrepreneurs and start-up companies to improve transportation services.
