Jakarta. Two people were injured when a Batik Air flight with 114 passengers and seven crewmembers on board experienced severe turbulence over Toba Samosir district in North Sumatra, the airline said on Wednesday (25/10).

The incident took place on a flight between Jakarta and Medan on Monday.

The Boeing 737-800NG aircraft, captained by Rizky Nusa, managed to land safely at Kualanamu International Airport at 5.20 p.m., Lion Air Group spokesman Ramaditya Handoko said.

Batik Air is operated by the Lion Air Group.

Ramaditya said the incident was caused by clear-air turbulence.

He added that the injured were taken to a medical facility at the airport, where they were treated for bone fractures.

"We will take responsibility for our passengers and crew who were injured in the incident, as part of our guarantee to ensure their safety, security and comfort," Ramaditya said, as quoted by BeritaSatu.com.
