Indonesian Delicacies Conquer Russian Palates
Jakarta. The 2017 Indonesian Festival in Russia's capital city on Aug. 4-6 saw a great success in promoting traditional cuisine, with fried rice and chicken satay appealing to the taste of Moscow's residents.
"The Ladies' Club was one of the top-selling booths. Since the first day, the two Indonesian dishes were the favorite ones among Russians," I Gde Pitana, deputy for foreign tourism marketing development at the Ministry of Tourism said on Sunday (06/08).
The event, initiated by the ministry in cooperation with the Indonesian Embassy, showcased various delicacies, which beside also included fried noodles, lamb satay and fried tofu.
"The food was sold out by the afternoon," Pitana said, adding that the festival was intended to increase the "Wonderful Indonesia" brand awareness in Russia.
"Russia is one of the main markets for Indonesia's tourism sector. This year, our target is to have 108,000 visitors."
More than 40 small and medium enterprises (SMEs), restaurants and chain stores participated in the event themed "Visit Wonderful Indonesia: Enjoy Its Diversity" at Moscow Hermitage Garden.
Tourism Minister Arief Yahya lauded the initiative, adding that Russia means a great potential for Indonesia's tourism.
"Due to long winters, Russians want warm and sunny beaches. Indonesia has it all. Let them love our cuisine first, then introduce them to our [tourism] destinations," he said.
