Foreign Tourists Start to Flood Riau's Bintan Island on Weekdays
Jakarta. As many as 600 Chinese tourists visit Bintan in the Riau Islands each weekday via ferry from Singapore's Tanah Merah.
The record numbers of tourists to the province comes following the Ministry of Tourism's "More for Less" campaign, which has reduced the cost of traveling to Indonesia's Riau Island chain.
"You get more, you pay less! They can pay cheap prices but gain access to impressive facilities," Arief said in a statement received on Thursday (24/08).
Esthy Reko Astuti, the Tourism Ministry's deputy for tourism development, said development projects have flourished on Batam and Bintan.
"This is a very good development."
Many of the tourists happened to stay at the Bintan Lagoon Resort, whose rooms, which overlook the South China Sean, can reach up to $450 per night.
The Tourism Ministry has partnered with several travel agents in Singapore and Johor Bahru, Malaysia, to sell lower-priced weekday tourism packages to Batam and Bintan.
