Plank Surfers of Enemawira Beach
Living in the remote island of Sangihe, North Sulawesi, one of Indonesia's frontier islands, meant that surfing boards would have to be brought in from places like Bali, thousands of kilometers away.
But this hasn't stopped a group of boys on Enemawira beach from trying to surf the massive waves coming in all the way from the South China Sea, relying on their own ingenuity to have a thrilling day on the beach.
Using nothing more than 120 by 25 centimeter wooden planks instead of a regular surfing board, the boys ride the waves, steering the plank using their bodies and hands the way a professional body surfer would.
The boys might be unfamiliar with the legendary U.S. surfer Phil Edwards, or his famous words: "the best surfer out there is the one having most fun" but they are the living embodiment of that quote.
