Grab Expands Food Delivery Service to Yogyakarta, Semarang and Palembang
Jakarta. Ride-hailing service and mobile payment platform Grab launched its food delivery service, GrabFood, in three more Indonesian cities on Thursday (25/01).
The service is now also available in Yogyakarta, Semarang (Central Java) and Palembang (South Sumatra), bringing the total to nine cities. It involves more than 30,000 merchants, allowing customers to order food from vendors within a 3-kilometer radius, for delivery at destinations of their choice.
"GrabFood is a convenient and reliable way for our customers to get food at the tap of a button. It also provides new economic opportunities for delivery partners and enables local restaurants to connect with more customers in their city," Mediko Azwar, marketing director at Grab Indonesia, said in a press release.
First launched in Jakarta in 2016, the service has since been expanded to Surabaya (East Java), Bandung (West Java), Denpasar (Bali), Makassar (South Sulawesi) and Medan (North Sumatra). Customers that already have the app on their smartphones can flip through various restaurants and eateries of their choice and have food delivered at very competitive prices.
GrabFood features a tracking system that follows the driver's location and the estimated time of arrival of the delivery. The chat feature available on the Grab app also eases communication between the driver and customer, providing a seamless way to contact the driver without leaving the app or incurring additional charges.
