Telkom Sends Madrasah Technonatura Students to Robotics Competition
Jakarta. State-owned telecommunications company Telkom helped send a team of students from Madrasah Technonatura to the First Global Challenge robotics competition in Mexico City on Aug. 15-18.
Telkom director of digital and strategic portfolio David Bangun said this was part of the company's support for Indonesian youth in becoming the pioneers and inventors of the future.
"We consider entering this robotics competition as a first step in developing technology and the digital economy. We hope the success of this team will further motivate Indonesian youth to be more knowledgeable about technology and to be able tackle future challenges," he said.
"We hope in this event the children who represent Indonesia will collaborate with other countries. Of course this will be a foundation for these children in the future to become global citizens who bring positive change to Indonesia," said Riza, the team's coach.
Last year, young Indonesian inventors, also supported by Telkom, won a silver medal in the competition's innovative robot category. They were also invited to Silicon Valley for training.
To this year's event, the R2045 Team brought a robot named D2L (Dark to Light) which the school and Telkom expect to win.
The 2018 First Global Challenge Olympic robotics competition is attended by representatives of 185 countries and is the largest robotics competition in the world.
