Jakarta. Internationally renowned contemporary artist Eko Nugroho is set to showcase new works in his upcoming solo exhibition at Salihara Gallery, South Jakarta, from Nov. 22 to Dec. 21.
The Yogyakarta-based artist held his last solo exhibition in Indonesia in 2011.
Titled "Landscape Anomaly," the new exhibition will present new works that include murals, sculptures and installations. The artist has created all murals and installations on-site as a response to the gallery's immediate space.
As usual, his artwork for the exhibition, will retain the comic and street-art aesthetics that he has become famous for. He also constantly injects his creations with socio-political critiques, responding to current developments in his own country.
This exhibition is curated by Asikin Hasan.
Over the years, Eko has grown to become one of the most important faces in Indonesia's contemporary art scene since his debut in the early 2000s. To date, he has participated in numerous exhibitions and art residence programs across the globe, from Yogyakarta to Berlin to New York. Some of the world's most prestigious museums, like the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris, also have his works in their collections.
Earlier this year, the artist showed his installation works during the OzAsia Festival at Art Gallery of South Australia. He also participated in a group exhibition focusing on Indonesian artists held in Frankfurt throughout the duration of the city's famous book fair in October.
