Eka Kurniawan Launches Fourth Novel 'O'
Jakarta. Indonesian author Eka Kurniawan officially launched his newest novel, entitled "O," on Sunday (14/03) in a bookstore in Jakarta.
Speaking to Antara News, the internationally acclaimed author said that the novel took him almost eight years to write. According to its brief synopsis, "O" tells the story "about a monkey who wants to marry a Dangdut Emperor."
"This [novel] can be considered a fable, not one for children, but for adult readers," Eka said, as quoted by Antara.
Consisting of 16 chapters, the novel not only describes animals that can speak with one another but also several inanimate objects that have a particular point of view about their daily "life."
Published in Indonesian by Gramedia Pustaka Utama, "O" is Eka's fourth novel. Two of his previous novels, "Cantik Itu Luka" ("Beauty Is a Wound") and "Lelaki Harimau" ("Man Tiger"), were published in English last year to instant critical acclaims.
Most recently, Eka was among the 13 authors named in the longlist for the 2016 Man Booker International award for "Man Tiger," which was translated into English by Labodalih Sembiring.
