Jakarta. Suar Artspace in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta, regularly holds exhibitions and workshops featuring Indonesia’s emerging artists — but this Saturday, the art venue will be transformed into a get-together space for wordsmiths.
In “Kenduri Kata” (“Feast of Words”), Suar collaborates with writer communities to celebrate the art of literature.
The main offering of the free entry event is a collage workshop session by artist Ika Vantiani. Her “Kata Untuk Perempuan” (“Words for Women”) project explores the way women can be described with words through mixed-media collages.
There will also be a relay writing session in collaboration with POST Santa, an independent bookstore and creative center based in Jakarta’s Pasar Santa.
Among the featured writers who will participate in “Kenduri Kata” are poet Adimas Immanuel, co-founder of The Murmur House literary community Syarafina Vidyadhana and “Surat Dari Praha” screenwriter Irfan Ramly.
“[This event] is part of our [monthly] Weekend Wonder Workshop, but this time, we are inviting wordsmiths to share their artistry,” said Nin Djani, a spokesperson of the artspace.
A pop-up market selling books and merchandises from POST Santa and independent publishers like Seumpama Books and Litara will also be held in conjunction with the event.
“Kenduri Kata” will be held this Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Suar Artspace, Jl. Lebak Bulus 1 No. 55, Cilandak, South Jakarta.
