Rica Oktavia Wins Indonesia's Third Gold at 2018 Asian Para Games; Breaks Long-Jump Record
Jakarta. Long jumper Rica Oktavia secured Indonesia's third gold medal at this year's Asian Para Games with a record-setting win in the women's T20 class competition.
She jumped 5.25 meters on Monday (08/10), breaking the Asian record of 5.20 meters set by Siti Noor Radiah of Malaysia at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, state-run news agency Antara reported.
The Malaysian athlete won silver this time around with a jump of 5.18 meters, followed by Sakai Sonomi of Japan with 5.02 meters.
The T20 class is designated for those with intellectual impairment.
Rica also competed in the women's F20 class shot-put competition, where she finished in fourth place. Indonesian athletes Suparniyati and Tiwa won gold and bronze, respectively, in that event.
Rica said she had been involved in long jump since elementary school and hopes to also participate in the next Paralympic Games.
"I want to compete at the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo," she said.
Indonesia's men's badminton team, comprising Deva Anrimusthi, Hary Susanto, Hafizh Briliansyah and Fredy Setiawan, won the country's first gold medal on Sunday, followed by Suparniyati's winning performance on Monday morning.
Indonesia, which has set a target of winning 18 gold medals at this year's Asian Para Games, is currently in sixth place on the medal table.
