Jakarta. Indonesia will have five representatives in the 2017 BWF World Junior Championships semifinals, as the event finished its quarterfinals in Yogyakarta on Friday (20/10).

With no medals gained in the previous mixed-team event, Indonesia now has a greater chance, after a promising performance if its junior shuttlers in the championship's quarterfinals.

In mixed doubles, Rinov Rivaldy and Pitha Haningtyas Mentari with compatriots Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto and Siti Fadia Ramadhanti will be facing Chinese opponents on Saturday.

Rinov and Pitha beat Thailand's Natthapat Trinkajee and Kwanchanok Sudjaipraparat 13-21, 21-17 and 21-16, before making it to the semis. Rehan and Siti won with Malaysian pair Eng Cheong Ng and Ee Wei Toh 18-21, 21-14 and 21-15.

In women's singles, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, who defeated fellow Indonesian pair Aurum Oktavia Winata 21-10 and 21-13 on Friday, will play against China's Cai Yanyan.

Women's doubles pair Jauza Fadhila Sugiarto and Ribka Sugiarto will fight Chinese Yuting Xia and Zhang Shuxian on Saturday, after winning a straight game 21-15 and 21-19 with Taiwan's Li Zi Qing and Teng Chun Hsun.

"From the beginning, I was aiming for the semifinals in this championship. But I won't stop fighting, will play to the maximum," Jauza, a daughter of former world champion Icuk Sugiarto, said on Friday, as quoted on the Indonesian Badminton Federation's (PBSI) website.

In men's doubles, Rinov will partner with Yeremia Yacob against China's Di Zijian and Wang Chang on Saturday. The promising pair conquered Taiwan's Chuang Pu Sheng and Lin Yu Chieh 21-14 and 21-17 earlier on Friday.

"I want a revenge against them [Wang and Di]," Rinov said, referring to the 2017 Asia Junior Championships in July, when the pair beat him.
