Liliyana Natsir to Retire After 2018 Asian Games
Jakarta. Olympic badminton gold medalist Liliyana Natsir has revealed her retirement plans during a special reception for her and teammate Tontowi Ahmad in Kudus, Central Java, on Thursday (01/09).
The two athletes were welcomed by thousands of supporters at their former club PB Djarum in Kudus. In appreciation of their success, each received a house from the club and the Djarum Foundation.
Liliyana, who has waited eights years to win gold, admitted that this year's Rio Games were her last Olympic appearance.
"Rio de Janeiro was my last Olympic as I will be turning 35 during the next Games in Tokyo," she said after receiving the prize from PB Djarum.
As Liliyana and Tontowi have not yet won the Asian Games, their coach Richard Mainaky confirmed they will reach for gold in 2018, when the competition will be hosted by Indonesia.
"I still want to win gold in the Asian Games, especially as it will be held in Jakarta" Lilyana said.
