Jakarta. Globalindo Dua Satu Express, the operator of 21Express courier service, has rolled out a new mobile application, marking its entry into the growing market of app-based courier services in Indonesia.
The 21Express mobile platform seeks to connect customers — both individuals and companies — with delivery couriers on demand, equipped with real-time updates on the package's status as well as an estimated quote on a possible delivery dates, according to a statement released on Wednesday
"The high demand of delivery services has pushed us to transition our distribution service in order to fulfill the needs of Indonesian customers," Tjia Anastasia, founder and chief executive officer of 21Express, said in the statement.
The company, which has built 25 years of experience dealing with business-to-business deliveries, announced its official foray into e-commerce in September, hoping to attract more online retail customers.
"Smartphone penetration in Indonesia is expanding and it's becoming a central need, not just in big cities but also in rural areas," said 21Express managing director Fany Wyadi.
"This is what convinced us to introduce a serviced based on a mobile application in order to provide an easier way for customers across Indonesia to process transactions."
The company will compete with Go-Jek, a local app-based motorcycle taxi service provider, whose drivers can also deliver small items, like documents and restaurant meals, to customers.
