Aqua Receives B Corp Certificate
Jakarta. Tirta Investama, a local unit of French consumer giant Danone and the producer of Indonesia's oldest bottled water product, Aqua, announced on Tuesday (28/02) that it has received a B Corp certification from non-profit organization B Lab for meeting the highest social, transparency, accountability and environmental standards.
Headquartered in Wayne, Pennsylvania, B Lab has granted certificates to about 2,400 companies in more than 50 countries that promote innovation for social benefits while also increasing positive impacts to employees in the areas where they operate.
Tirta Investama has become the first consumer goods company in Indonesia that has been granted the certification.
"[The certification] is a testament to Danone-Aqua's 45-year journey in Indonesia in providing healthy products and sustainable business practices," said Corinne Tap, president director at Tirta Investama.
Other companies that have received similar certifications include organic baby products company Happy Family, Danone Spain, Danone Dairy UK and Aguas Danone Argentina, all of which are Danone subsidiaries. Outdoor retailer Patagonia, ice cream maker Ben & Jerry's and online retailer Nature Découvertes or Veritas have also received certificates from B Lab.
"We want to inspire business players around the world to build a business with care and responsibility by seeing and measuring company policy and performance in aspects of governance, employment, community, environment and business models in the B-Corp certification. Danone-Aqua has gone through an audit process in the certification and is considered to meet the standards," B Corp Association vice chairperson for Asia Pacific Corey Lim said.
Lim said that consumers now tend to buy products from environmentally friendly businesses. Consumers also tend to learn more about the business practices behind a company's products.
Danone has pledged to support more people and companies in a collective global movement to become an agent of change by showing good business practices, while also guiding consumers to be responsible buyers, Tap said.
