Batang Police Implement Measures to Avoid Traffic Jams During Idul Fitri Return Exodus
Jakarta. Police in Batang, Central Java, have completed preparatory measures to accommodate an anticipated increase in road traffic as residents make their way back into cities following the end of the Idul Fitri holiday.
In cooperation with the a consortium of infrastructure companies, police oversaw the construction of an additional entrance into the Gringsing-Brebes toll road on the northern shore lane of Java which connects outlying regions to Jakarta.
"The return traffic will use the emergency toll of Batang, whch stretches 49 kilometers to Pekalongan, Kajen and Pemalang," Batang Police chief Sr. Comr. Adj. Juli Agung Pramono said on Wednesday (28/06).
Police also installed portable traffic lights in front of the Gringsing Police precinct to help stem the flow of traffic.
"We are using the portable traffic lights, as we have three units to redirect the traffic. The incoming flow from the east and west should be stopped temporarily to allow vehicles to enter the toll road," Agung added.
Police have advised the public to tred carefully and not to drive too quickly on the toll road, suggesting an average speed of 40 kilometers per hour.
Meanwhile, Central Java transportation agency head Satrio Hidayat reminded returning holiday travelers to be cautious while driving on the Ajibarang-Ketanggungan route, which connects Banyumas with Brebes.
"If traffic occurs, [the route from] Ajibarang to the north will be diverted into the southern lane," Satrio said.
Travelers have started to fill the roads heading to Jakarta from Central and East Java, as almost 25,000 vehicles were recorded passing through Cirebon on Wednesday.
