BII Receives The Global CSR Awards 2015 For Empowering Women
Bank International Indonesia (BII) was recently granted the Platinum Award, which is regarded as the highest category of appreciation from the Global CSR Awards 2015, organized by Pinnacle Group International under the category of "Empowerment of Women".
Global CSR Awards 2015 is a prestigious event in rendering recognition for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs in Asia. The initiatives included in this event must demonstrate aspects of leadership, sincerity and ongoing commitment of the Company in incorporating ethical values, compliance with the requirements of law, and respect for the individual, society and the environment within their business scope.
"In line with the mission of humanizing Financial Services, we are committed to always be in the community and grow together with them. This commitment is also part of the BII efforts to improve the competitiveness of the productive disadvantaged women with a program of economic empowerment through micro-financing. Through this program, we hope to reduce poverty by encouraging disadvantaged women to earn better incomes, improve knowledge and quality of human resources, "said President Director of BII, Taswin Zakaria.
Micro finance has been successfully proven to be one of the powerful economic engine for poverty alleviation, Taswin added.
In relation to the women's empowerment program, BII partnered with the Association of Women Entrepreneurs Assistants (ASPPUK) since December 2013. The program allows BII to helped and sheltered more than 2,700 women (micro) entrepreneurs under the ASPPUK in 12 provinces, including Sulawesi, Sumatra, Borneo, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara and Java. BII supports for micro-finance programs has assist members of ASPPUK to increase their production capacity.
BII also supported members of ASPPUK to promote and market their products through bazaar, including those organized by the Minisitry of Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises. Furthermore, since October 2014, ASPPUK has been promoting female fashion clothes and accessories through one of the well-known online shopping sites in Indonesia.
ASPPUK has now more than 9,812 members of women micro entrepreneurs, with coverage in 22 provinces. Through this partnership, the Bank not only supports the empowerment of members of ASPPUK but also allows the Cooperatives to take part in international organizations by becoming a member of the ASEAN Women Entrepreneurs Network (AWEN), a gateway to enter the international market.
