BNI Profit Up 25.1% in 2016
Jakarta. State lender Bank Negara Indonesia saw its net income rise 25.1 percent last year, thanks to a strong loan growth, mainly from its corporate clients.
BNI's net income rose to Rp 11.34 trillion ($850 million) last year from Rp 9.07 trillion in 2015.
BNI Vice President Director Suprajarto said BNI's profit growth last year was above the industry's overall profit growth, which is estimated at 10 percent.
The bank's net interest income and non-interest income grew 17.4 percent and 23.1 percent to Rp 29.99 trillion and Rp 8.59 trillion respectively.
BNI's outstanding loans also grew by 20.6 percent to Rp 393.3 trillion.
Suprajarto said this year the lender is eyeing a slower loan growth of around 15 percent to 17 percent.
He said last year BNI did well to make a push on corporate loans, which grew 21 percent to Rp 95.8 trillion.
Its loans to other state-owned or state-controlled companies also grew strongly by 33.3 percent to Rp 78.3 trillion.
BNI's total assets last year grew 18.6 percent to Rp 603 trillion and its third party funds — which include savings, term deposits and current accounts — grew 17.6 percent to Rp 435.6 trillion.
