Car Sales Declines for 19th Month in March, Motorcycle Market Recovers

Jakarta. Car sales in Indonesia dropped 5.5 percent in March from a year earlier, declining for 19th consecutive month as pressures on customer purchasing power persists, the country's biggest car distributor Astra International said on Thursday (14/04).
Motorcycle sales, on the other hand, rose for the first time in seven months, the data showed.
Car sales reached 93,990 units last month, compared to 99,410 a month earlier, according to data from Indonesia Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo).
Toyota Motor led sales in March, followed by Honda Motor and Daihatsu Motor.
Gaikindo expects automotive sales to grow 5 percent this year with 1.05 million to 1.1 million cars to hit the road in 2016, up from 1.01 million in 2015.
Motorcycle sales rose for the first time since last August to 563,341 in March, up 3.4 percent from 546,169 a year ago, Astra said, this time citing data from Indonesia Motorcycle Association (AISI).
Honda lead the two-wheeler market with 78 percent market share, followed by Yamaha, Kawasaki and Suzuki.
