Jakarta. The Indonesian Toll Association, or ATI, has introduced a 20 percent for e-toll card users across Indonesia during the holiday period.
“The policy was announced yesterday [28/06] and applies nationwide. It will also increase e-toll users,” ATI chairman Fathur Rahman told the press in Jakarta, Wednesday evening (29/06).
Jasa Marga director Adityawarman and operational director Christianto Prihambodo as well as Lintas Marga Sedaya deputy director Hudaya Arryanto joined Fathur at the event.
Fathur said the government and the toll companies all agreed to the scheme.
He pointed to the Jakarta-Palimanan toll as example, with users charged only Rp 87,500 ($6.60) down from the standard Rp 109,500 initial fare.
“The tariff applies from at 6.00 a.m. three days prior to [Idul Fitri] or July 3, and ends three days after, on July 10 at 6.00 a.m.,” Fathur said.
Discounts as incentives
Adityawarman said the discount will act as an initiative of the Toll Roads Enterprise within the ATI.
“We hope to see an increase of e-toll users from the average of 20-25 percent up to 40 percent,” he said, adding that the 20 percent discount will lure many users to switch to e-toll.
“It is [also] faster and smoother for traffic,” Adityawarman added.
However, he said potential traffic jams could happen in several toll roads, where operators will introduce counter measures.
“There will be several designs, such as counter-flows and other efforts.”
The current holiday travel is expected to experience a 7.29 percent surge in traffic seven days to a day ahead of Idul Fitri, from the initial 2.2 million cars passing though the tolls.
The peak of holiday travel is predicted for Friday, July 1, whereas return traffic is predicted to peak on Sunday, July 10.
