Jakarta. Jakarta-based Economic Research Institute for Asean and East Asia, or ERIA, appointed Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria as the senior policy fellow in charge of the think-tank's policy design department, helping policy makers in the region to make better informed decisions.
"Dr. Rebecca is one of the most knowledgeable people in terms of trade for this region," Hidetoshi Nishimura, ERIA president, said on Tuesday (13/09).
According to Nishimura, the newly appointed senior policy fellow has had a long career with the government of Malaysia for more than 30 years.
Sta Maria began her career in the Malaysian Administrative and Diplomatic Service in 1981 in which she served in various capacities in the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Sta Maria retired as secretary general of Malaysia's International Trade and Industry Ministry on July 1, where she was in charge of Malaysia's international trade policies, both formulation and its implementation.
She had led Malaysia's participation in various bilateral, regional and multilateral fora — including Asean, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the World Trade Organization.
Sta Maria also took active parts in pursuing Asean economic integration, including chaired the Asean senior economic official meeting and Asean high-level task force for economic integration.
