Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show Draws Largest Crowd Since 2019

Jakarta. The Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2024 has attracted the largest audience since 2019. Held at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD in Tangerang, Banten, the event welcomed 475,084 visitors from July 18 to 28.
"From the first day of the exhibition to the last, visitor interest never waned, with a total attendance of 475,084," Rizwan Alamsjah, Chairman III of Gaikindo and the organizer of GIIAS 2024, said on Monday.
One of the major attractions this year was the participation of 55 vehicle brands, including several new automakers making their debut at GIIAS. Rizwan hopes that the record attendance will drive the growth of Indonesia’s automotive industry, including boosting sales transactions, even though that was not the primary goal of the exhibition.
“GIIAS is Gaikindo’s effort to showcase the development of Indonesia’s automotive industry and to encourage its growth. After hearing reports from participants, we are confident that GIIAS has fulfilled its role exceptionally well this year,” Rizwan added.
Gaikindo Chairman Yohannes Nangoi mentioned that exhibitors welcomed GIIAS 2024, despite the event being held earlier than usual. This year’s exhibition took place in July to avoid clashing with the simultaneous regional elections scheduled for November 2024.
Nangoi also indicated that future GIIAS events would likely continue in the BSD area, although there are considerations for other locations. "We are still evaluating options, but it’s certain that GIIAS will be held in BSD next year," he said.
The participation of 55 vehicle brands and manufacturers—covering two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and commercial vehicles—set a record for Gaikindo, marking the highest number of participants since the event's inception in 1986.
Astra Financial, the platinum sponsor for the event, reported transaction values reaching Rp 2.53 trillion at GIIAS 2024. This represents a 4.7 percent increase from the previous year, with 6,780 Vehicle Order Letters (SPK) issued.
Among the transactions, internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles led the demand with 4,865 units, making up 78.34% of the financing. Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) followed with 1,261 units, or 20.31%, while Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) accounted for 84 units, or 1.35%.
