Jakarta. Flagship carrier Garuda Indonesia has revised an aircraft order with Airbus and signed an agreement with engine maker Rolls-Royce worth a total of $1.2 billion on the side of President Joko Widodo's official visit to London on Tuesday (19/04), a Garuda executive said in a statement.

Garuda officially changed its previous order of seven wide-body A330-300 Airbus jets to 14 units of the A330-900neo, a new and improved version of the A330-family plane with a new engine option.

Garuda also signed a partnership agreement with Airbus' engine provider Rolls-Royce, allowing the airline to receive maintenance support and training for Garuda's engineers and technicians.

"The move is part of an effort to expand Garuda's network, to continue positive growth for the airline and to improve its competitiveness in the global marketplace," M. Arif Wibowo, Garuda Indonesia's president director, said in a statement.

Garuda will start receiving its order in 2019.

According to information on the Airbus site, the A330neo uses the latest generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engine and features aerodynamic improvements that increase lift and reduce drag.

These improvements promise a quieter plane for the passengers' comfort, additional payload capability and low maintenance costs.
