Gifood Wins Best General App Award at Telkom Hackathon 2018

Jakarta. Fostering the rise of a new generation of digital entrepreneurs in Indonesia, Telkom once again held the Telkom Hackathon 2018, an event that gathered hundreds of creative youth teams from across the country to compete in digital business app development using Telkom's latest digital platform, Xsight, that allowed participants to access various interfaces.

During the Telkom Hackathon 2018 Grand Final held in Bandung, West Java, on Sunday (25/02), the jury team selected the winners for the best apps, with first place going to Gifood, an app developed by a team from Yogyakarta, followed by Sorella, developed by a team from Jakarta.

The winners received an opportunity to conduct a comparative study of digital companies overseas, such as Liferay in Sydney, Australia, and Cellum in Budapest, Hungary, as well as a cash prize of Rp 10 million ($700). Moreover, the best apps of each category are entitled to a cash prize worth a total of Rp 45 million.

The first place winner of the Telkom Hackathon 2018, Gifood, offered a unique solution that connected the restaurant and food proprietors with excess food with those in need. Meanwhile, the second winner, Sorella, offered a solution in the field of security with three main features: a panic button, a chatbot and Sorella group notify.

The director of digital and strategic portfolios of Telkom, David Bangun, congratulated all finalists for their efforts and creativity.

"Congratulations to the winning teams at Telkom Hackathon 2018. This event was held to capture the best creative and innovative developers from Indonesia. The Telkom Hackathon has been held since 2015 and is also one of Telkom's efforts to build a digital ecosystem to facilitate young Indonesian digital entrepreneurs," David said.

The 20 finalists of Telkom Hackathon 2018 are eligible to take part in a series of activities set to further improve their skills and capabilities in app development in the future.

"The development of the digital ecosystem, including the implementation of Telkom Hackathon, is part of Telkom's commitment in promoting the nation's digital entrepreneurs while supporting the government's goal to make Indonesia the largest digital economy power in Southeast Asia," David said.
