Govt Green-Lights Jakarta-Bandung Fast Train Construction
MARCH 19, 2016
Jakarta. Indonesia's Transportation Ministry has finally issued a construction permit for the first five kilometers of the Jakarta-Bandung fast train track, allowing the project to begin immediately, a senior official said on Friday (18/03).
The permit came after the ministry and Kereta Cepat Indonesia China, a Chinese-Indonesian consortium responsible for the project, agreed to 50-year concession for the rail track on Wednesday.
The consortium, known as KCIC, also secured a business permit from the ministry for running a transportation service.
Hermanto Dwiatmoko, the director general for railways at Transportation Ministry, said the permits also allow for construction of a bridge and a tunnel track for a short section in Walini, West Java.
KCIC needs to submit additional documents before it is allowed to start work on the remaining 137 kilometers of track, Hermanto said. Earlier, the ministry said most of technical documents from the consortium were submitted in Chinese, which meant the ministry could not properly evaluate the plan.
