Gov’t Removes Tens of Thousands of Online Second-Hand Shops

Jakarta. The Trade Ministry has removed more than 64,500 online stores offering second-hand products from major e-commerce and social media platforms since the crackdown on used-clothing import began in March.
The ministry’s Consumer Protection and Trade Supervision Directorate said in a statement on Sunday that the cyber operations have taken down 28.462 second-hand shops in Shopee Indonesia, 28,000 in Tokopedia, 6,468 in Bukalapak, 370 in Blibli, 300 in Lazada Indonesia, 3,897 in TikTok Shop, 31 in Facebook, and 23 in Instagram.
The directorate also ordered the closure of websites belonging to five major retailers that sell used clothes. Those retailers are Sophiest Thrift, Trans Fashion Batam, Ball Media ID, Nice Thrift & Ball Segel Import, and Kyra Ball Import.
Consumer Protection Director-General Moga Simatupang said the ministry has issued a regulation that bans the import of second-hand apparel. Accordingly, online shops and ad agencies that promoted the banned items will risk closure by authorities.
He said the operations were conducted in collaboration with e-commerce operators and the Communication and Informatics Ministry.
