Industry Ministry Seeks to Double Its Budget in 2017
Jakarta. The Ministry of Industry has requested that the House of Representatives doubles its budget for next year in a bid to fund manpower development programs as part of its plan to prepare the country's industrial sector for the Asean Economic Community, a minister said on Monday (13/05).
The ministry wants to add Rp 3.51 trillion ($264 million) to its current Rp 3.16 indicative budget ceiling in the 2017 state budget.
"We proposed that the budget allocation for the year be increased to more than Rp 6 trillion. The meeting concluded with House Commission VI understanding the proposal," Industry Minister Saleh Husin said after the meeting.
Commission VI oversees trade, industry, investment, cooperatives, small and medium enterprises, and state-owned enterprises.
"Next, [the proposal] will be submitted to the House budget committee," the minister said.
Most of the budget will be allocated to the ministry's main programs, including the industrial manpower development, industrial zoning expansion and technological development.
The industry ministry's allocation in the 2016 state budget is Rp 3.3 trillion, but it is facing a cut of Rp 369.5 billion in the revised state budget.
