Investor Daily Roundtable Addresses Food Security as Exporting Nations Halt Shipments

Jakarta. The world is currently facing fears of a potential food crisis and famine. This could affect Indonesia too, as major food-producing countries like India, Thailand, and Vietnam are stopping exports of rice and sugar.
Enggartiasto Lukita, Executive Chairman of B-Universe and former Indonesian Trade Minister (2016-2019), said that the government, particularly the Ministry of Agriculture and the state-owned food holding company ID Food, are actively pursuing strategic measures to address food issues.
"Various steps taken are strategic in tackling the main challenges faced not only by our country but also by other nations worldwide," Lukita said following his role as moderator at the Investor Daily Roundtable (IDRT) on Tuesday.
He commended Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman's initiatives such as irrigation and fertilizer distribution, which he believes provide fresh hope in resolving domestic food issues. Sulaiman's experience enables him to understand and address field conditions effectively.
"Irrigation is crucial due to drought conditions. Regarding fertilizers, although prices have fluctuated, the focus is now on volume to ensure certainty for farmers and other related aspects," he explained.
Lukita emphasized the importance of continuing Sulaiman's initiatives, supported by President Joko Widodo and President-elect Prabowo Subianto's planned transition, assuring the public of sustained and uninterrupted programs.
Regarding ID Food, Lukita noted their significant role in ensuring food commodity availability and distribution nationwide, underscoring ongoing government efforts to stabilize food prices.
The Investor Daily Roundtable (IDRT), held at Rumah Kaca Melati, Hutan Kota by Plataran, Jakarta, featured Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman and ID Food CEO Sis Apik Wijayanto. The discussion delved into governance strategies to achieve national food security.
