Jakarta. The 2017 Global Mobile App Summit and Awards will take place for the first time in Jakarta on Jan. 26.
The mobile app conference will feature a panel discussion and keynote speeches by representatives of global tech giants Google and Twitter and local e-commerce platforms OLX and Bukalapak.
First held in India in 2015 by IT solutions firm Dot Com Infoway (DCI), the conference has since been introduced to Thailand due to that country's growing mobile app market.
In Indonesia, the conference is hoping to garner the attention of mobile app developers due to its high penetration of mobile phones and large number of mobile app downloads.
"In 2015, 18 percent of mobile app downloads worldwide came from Indonesia," DCI managing director and chief officer Venkatesh C.R. told the Jakarta Globe on Tuesday (22/11). "This is the largest app download market and it's a potential market for investment."
The theme the summit in Indonesia will focus on the progression of personal computer towards mobile, as the event solely focuses on mobile app technology.
The 2017 Global Mobile App Summit and Awards will also open its doors for independent local mobile game developers to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges to take their ideas to the next level at the Indie Pitch Fest.
"Games are the most popular type of app downloaded by Indonesians, with 38 percent of total downloads, followed by instant messengers, social media, shopping, and transportation," said Venkatesh, who is also chairman of the 2017 Global Mobile App Summit and Awards.
At the Indie Pitch Fest, developers will contend for a $1,250 cash prize, followed by $750 for second place and $500 for third.
The summit will also take place in India and Thailand later next year.
