Batu, Malang. The Jamboree and Generasi Berencan, or GenRe, Creativity Event 2016 was held from Tuesday (27/09) to Friday, in Batu, Malang, launched by the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, to encourage the younger generation to participate in youth development activities, in line with the ministry's mental revolution movement.

Jamboree is an annual event used as a platform for the youth to develop themselves through activities including seminars by experts on various issues affecting the youth, question and answer sessions, an inspirational talk by a GenRe ambassador and a talent contest.

“We all pin our hopes on programs like GenRe, to be an effective instrument in shaping a strong and competitive young generation,” Haswan Yunaz, the ministry's deputy coordinator of cultural affairs, said.

In order to cope with challenges affecting the youth, Haswan suggested that they participate in positive, development building activities including art, entrepreneurship training and sports.

“Efforts to improve accessibility and provide more opportunities for positive activities must be done with systematic and sustainable planning,” Haswan said.

Jamboree and GenRe was officially kicked off by Surya Chandra Surapty, head of the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN) and was also attended by Malang Mayor Eddy Rumpko and other government representatives.

"Mental revolution is part of the process of nourishing the nation's character so that we will be able to fulfill our ideals of freedom, being independent, united, sovereign, just and prosperous, in line with the Pancasila," Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, Puan Maharani, told Brawijaya University students in Malang on Tuesday.

In her lecture, Puan called on the students to be the agents of the change.

"I agree with President Sukarno about the role of Indonesian youth. I am certain of their capacity to make change for the better. They are the ones who will make Indonesia independent, self-sustained and civilized," she said.
