Lion Air Offers New Solo-Kuala Lumpur Flight

FEBRUARY 23, 2017

Jakarta. Lion Mentari Airlines, Indonesia's largest budget airline, launched a new flight from Solo's Adi Soemarmo International Airport to Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday (22/02), in an attempt to woo tourists from the neighboring country and reduce strain on nearby international airports.

The airline, known best as Lion Air, flies daily in the morning from Solo and return in the afternoon, Daniel Putu, the managing director at Lion Air Group said in a statement.

Malaysian is the largest tourist group visiting the Central Java capital, according to Solo's statistics agency, thanks to direct flight to the city, offered by Lion Air's Malaysian rival AirAsia.

Daniel said now residents of Solo can enjoy flights to Malaysia without having to transit in Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta or Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, thus reducing strain on those airports.

The airline will also link with Malindo Air, its Malaysian subsidiary, allowing passengers to transfer to flights to other countries including Singapore, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Australia, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, China and India.
