Lippo Mall Puri Celebrates Chinese New Year With 'The Peacock Story'
Jakarta. Lippo Mall Puri in West Jakarta has been hosting an Imlek, or Chinese New Year celebration, called "Eternal Gem: The Peacock Story" since Jan. 20. The mini festival will run until Feb. 12.
The Peacock Story features a giant, eight meter-high peacock display standing on the mall's atrium located on the ground floor.
The peacock symbolizes integrity, honesty, beauty and eternity in Chinese mythology. Jan. 28 marks the beginning of the Year of the Rooster according to the Chinese zodiac.
The mall also sets up a stage and a carousel for kids to play while their parents go shopping.
"The Chinese New Year celebration is one of Lippo Mall Puri's signature events. We present different themes each year and arrange many kinds of activities for the whole family," Lippo Mall Indonesia pipeline specialist manager Afriany said in a statement.
Performances to entertain visitors at the mall include a Barongsai (lion dance) by Kong Ha Hong every Saturday and Sunday, and a Wushu and Liong Dance special on Jan. 22 and Feb.5.
Er-Hu and Guzheng will perform traditional Chinese music on Jan. 27-28, Feb. 4 and Feb. 11.
Traditional dance performances by Mongol and Donhuang will hit the mall's atrium stage on Jan. 22 and Feb. 5. A fan dance and a Chinese character parade will take place on Jan. 28, Feb. 4 and Feb. 11, which the kids should enjoy.
Chinese martial arts Tai Chi and Wing Chun will make an appearance on Jan. 29 and Feb. 12, as well as a special music performance, "Shanghai Jazz," on Jan. 29.
