Makassar International Eight Festival and Forum Boosts Local Tourism
Jakarta. Thousands of tourists flocked to the second Makassar International Eight Festival and Forum, or MIEFF, in the South Sulawesi provincial capital on Sept. 6-9.
Anggiat Sinaga, head of the Indonesia Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) in South Sulawesi, said 38 members of the organization offered lucrative packages for visitors to the event, such as a four-day plus one-night promotion, which included free breakfast and pickups from and at the event.
According to a statement the PHRI released on Sunday (10/09), the promotion attracted thousands of guests, among them performers at the event.
Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) head Triawan Munaf said tourism, which is part of the creative economy, is one of the sectors that help improve national economic growth.
"The government's role in the development of the creative economy in Makassar is extraordinary […] It shows the world that creative and innovative products in this city have competitive value and distinctive specialty," Triawan said.
