Jakarta. Matahari Department Store presented two new collections, "Pause" and "Spurs," at Jakarta Fashion Week 2017 in Senayan City Mall on Sunday (23/10) and Tuesday. This marked the fourth time the department store participated in Jakarta's most prestigious fashion event.
Pause is a modern minimalist collection to show the calm and gentle side of every woman. The collection's name suggests sometimes you just need to hit the pause button to get a bit of calm back into your life.
Pastel colors such as baby blue, grey and nude dominated the collection. A light and flowing look was achieved by the use of lightweight fabrics — chiffon, cotton crepe, spandex viscose — accented with pleats.
Loose-fitting items such as culottes, palazzo pants, boxy tops and long vests combine into an elegant and chic look, highlighted by simple structures and draperies.
Minimalist silver and gold linear accessories were go-to items, giving an elegant touch without anything too flashy. Metallic strappy shoes and sandals were also chosen for its rich look and simplicity.
The other collection, Spurs, concentrates on urban and sporty styles. The inspirations behind it was '80s and '90s R&B and hip-hop and their fashion.
Spurs' show was divided into two sessions. The first one showcased a more youthful and cheerful collection. The color palette alternates between red, light blue, navy blue and grey.
Included in the collection were trench denim outers, sweaterdresses, t-shirtdresses, rompers, overalls, joggers, retro shrunken striped tops and logo sweatshirts. The items were typically made of denim, chambray, cotton spandex and knit. For highlights, there were patches and pins.
The second session presented a glam, sporty look with bolder colors, including black, fuchsia and gold. The materials were more experimental, with tulle, chiffon, faux leather, glitter, sequins and polyester dominating.
The outfits included oversized masculine blazers, biker jackets, parka jackets, cold shoulder tops, high-low tops, sweaterdresses, high-waisted shorts, jumpsuits, woven overalls and long vests.
Still maintaining a sporty look, the shoe choices were sneakers, slip-ons, and ankle boots.
Gold accessories and bold-colored bags — this season's must-have items — rounded up the collection.
