MSU Gives Assurances on Future of Meikarta Megacity Development
Jakarta. Mahkota Sentosa Utama, the company behind the Meikarta development, said on Thursday that work on the megacity project in Bekasi district, West Java, was continuing and remained on schedule after the company received assurances from the national antigraft agency that its ongoing bribery investigation was separate from the development.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has made several arrests and is currently questioning nine Bekasi city officials, company executives and consultants, over their alleged involvement in bribery related to the issuing of project permits.
"As can be understood legally, and in line with the KPK's statement, the legal process currently pursued by the KPK is separate and different from the ongoing development of Meikarta," MSU's legal representative, Denny Indrayana, said in a statement on Thursday.
He said MSU is "very grateful" for the KPK's "wise and considerate" statement.
"As such, we can continue the development that has been ongoing, in accordance with our commitment to buyers and our efforts to contribute to Indonesia's economic growth," said Denny, who is also a senior partner at the Indrayana Center for Government, Constitution and Society.
"MSU will be responsible and strive to fulfill its other obligations with regard to the Meikarta development, ensuring that all the processes run smoothly and in accordance with the applicable laws," he said.
The attorney said the company respected the ongoing legal process and would "continue to collaborate with the KPK to complete the process."
The Jakarta Globe and MSU are both affiliated with the Lippo Group.
