National Auto Sales Top 1 Million in 2023

Jakarta. The Indonesian automotive industry recorded just above 1 million sales throughout last year, with brands under Astra International controlling 56 percent of the market shares.

However, last year’s figure was 4 percent lower than the total sales a year earlier.

Astra -- the authorized distributor and local manufacturer of global brands including Toyota, Daihatsu, Isuzu, UD Trucks, and Peugeot -- sold 560,717 cars in 2023, according to data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo).

Toyota recorded 338,292 sales, followed by Daihatsu (188,000), Isuzu (31,427), UD Trucks (1,799), and Peugeot (199).

Honda ranked third overall with 138,967 sales, ahead of Mitsubishi (108,969) and Suzuki (81,057).

Among non-Japanese brands, Hyundai led with 35,500 sales while Chinese carmaker Wuling sold 23,540 cars.

Nissan is the worst-performing Japanese auto brand in Indonesia, selling just 1,639 cars last year. Other brands collectively sold 55,413 cars in Indonesia last year.
