New Hypermart Store for W. Kalimantan

JANUARY 22, 2015

Jakarta. Indonesian retailer Matahari Putra Prima opened its 108th Hypermart outlet on Wednesday, in the West Kalimantan city of Singkawang, as the company forges ahead with its business expansion for this year.

The store is Hypermart’s 10th store in Kalimantan island.

Danny Kojongian, the director of public relations and communications at Matahari Putra Prima Ritel, said the store marked the first opening for 2015.

“We expect the store to make a positive contribution to the economy of Singkawang and surrounding areas and also to support the local people’s modern lifestyle,” he said in a statement.

Besides Hypermart, the listed company also operates the grocery chain Foodmart, as well as health-and-beauty chain Boston Health & Beauty.

Hypermart store manager Iwan Ananda said the team was ready to provide the best service for consumers with high-quality products at affordable prices and attractive promotions.

Matahari Putra Prima has been working to expand its presence in the eastern half of Indonesia in the past year, in an effort to target the expanding middle-income group.  Late last year, Hypermart opened new outlets in East Bekasi (West Java), Kupang (East Nusa Tenggara) and Bau-Bau (Southeast Sulawesi).

Hypermart is present in more 60 cities in Indonesia from Tanjung Balai in Medan, North Sumatra, to Jayapura in Papua.

Matahari Putra Prima had total gross sales of Rp 12.6 trillion ($1 billion) in 2013, up 11.1 percent from 2012. The company also recorded a 85.8 percent jump in net income to Rp 445 billion in 2013.

Matahari Putra Prima and the Jakarta Globe are both affiliated with the Lippo Group.
