Police Expect Peak Holiday Traffic Four Days Ahead of Idul Fitri
Jakarta. With less than a week to go before Idul Fitri, the National Police predict that the holiday exodus will reach its peak on Saturday (02/07), four days before the festival that marks the end of Ramadan.
With most Indonesians traveling across the country, the police are preparing to step up their activities to ensure social order and alleviate traffic congestion.
"With the increased activities, there will of course be a surge in the movement in people and goods, including transportation and economic mobility in all parts of the country," National Police chief Gen. Badrodin Haiti said on Thursday (30/06).
The police also predict that the peak contraflow will occur three days after Idul Fitri, with an estimated 17.6 million travelers expected this year.
"The number of private cars on the road during this time is expected to be as high as 2.4 million, with another 5.6 million motorcycles," Badrodin added.
During the holiday period, the police will also deploy a total of 158,000 officers to provide security as part of Operation Ramadhaniya 2016.
"The officers will be spread out throughout the country, with most stationed in Lampung, Java, Bali and South Sulawesi," the police chief said.
Officials will focus on traffic safety, public safety and emergency preparedness.
