Cirebon. President-elect Prabowo Subianto will visit Cirebon on Wednesday to witness the trial of free meal program at a state school in Cirebon, West Java.

Providing free nutritious meals for school-aged children has become a central theme of his presidential campaign as Prabowo vowed to combat stunting.

Acting Cirebon Mayor Agus Mulyadi said the free nutritious meals will target 68,000 elementary and secondary students in the city.

“Of that figure, 18,000 students will take part in a five-day trial that begins at State Junior High School 1 in the district of Kejaksan,” Agus said on Tuesday.

"Mr. Prabowo will be present at the school to witness the free distribution of nutritious meals for students. He will also attend a similar event in Surakarta and Salatiga,” he added.

At the state school, 2,000 students will be gathered to receive free meals, he said.

Once Prabowo assumes presidency next month, the free meal program will be implemented in stages. When fully implemented, the program will cover 82 million children across the country.

The current administration of President Joko Widodo fully supports the program, which has been included in the 2025 budget drafted by his cabinet.

The president’s son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, will be installed as the vice president alongside Prabowo on October 20.
