Retailer Hypermart Makes It 109 With Ketapang Outlet
Jakarta. Retailer Matahari Putra Prima opened its 109th hypermarket outlet in Ketapang, West Kalimantan on Thursday as part of the company’s expansion outside Java Island.
MPP is the operator of Hypermart, the country’s biggest hypermarket chain. The new outlet covers an area of 5,000 square meters in Borneo City Mall Ketapang, one of the province’s biggest shopping centers.
The opening marks Hypermart’s 11th store in Kalimantan.
“The opening of Hypermart Borneo City Mall Ketapang strengthens the company’s commitment to continuing its expansion outside the island of Java, especially in West Kalimantan,” Hypermart director of public relations and communications Danny Kojongian said in a statement.
Danny said Hypermart’s presence is expected to affect the local economy.
“We hope the store can contribute to the economy of Ketapang and its surrounding areas as well as improve the lifestyles of Ketapang’s citizens,” he said.
Apart form Hypermart, MPP also operates the grocery chain Foodmart, as well as health-and-beauty chain Boston Health & Beauty.
Late last month, the listed company also opened its 108th Hypermart outlet in Singkawang, West Kalimantan.
MPP has been working to expand its presence in the eastern half of Indonesia over the past year, in an effort to target the expanding middle-income group.
Hypermart is present in more 60 cities in Indonesia from Tanjung Balai in Medan, North Sumatra, to Jayapura in Papua.
