Semen Indonesia Appoints Former Top Spook Sutiyoso as President Commissioner
Jakarta. Shareholders of Semen Indonesia, the country's biggest cement maker, have appointed former intelligence chief Sutiyoso as president commissioner, replacing Mahendra Siregar.
Sutiyoso led the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) from July 2015 until September last year, when he was replaced by Budi Gunawan. Earlier, in 1997-2007, he served two terms as Jakarta governor.
During the general shareholders meeting on Friday (31/03), Semen Indonesia also appointed Agung Yunanto as human resources and law director, replacing Ahyanizzaman who is now serving as the company's marketing and supply chain director. All other directors remained on their posts, including president director Rizkan Chandra.
Sutiyoso's appointment comes when Semen Indonesia is about to open its latest plant in Kendeng Mountains, Central Java.
The plant's operations permit was revoked by the Supreme Court in October due to environmental concerns. However, Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo — a politician from the ruling party Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) — has recently issued a new permit for the company.
Farmers residing in the mountains area have been protesting against the decision since last month, demanding that the government comply with the court's ruling.
On Friday's meeting, the company's shareholders also approved final dividend payment of Rp 1.8 trillion ($135 million), or Rp 304.92 a share, equivalent to about 40 percent of Semen Indonesia's net income last year. The dividend paid this year is the same as last year.
