Simon Aloysius Mantiri Appointed as Pertamina’s New Boss

Jakarta. The State-Owned Enterprise Ministry officially appointed Simon Aloysius Mantiri as the new president director of the state-run oil and gas firm Pertamina in a shareholders’ meeting on Monday.
Simon replaced Nicke Widyawati who had been the Pertamina boss since 2018.
Simon was previously the company’s chief commissioner. He was picked to lead Pertamina’s board of commissioners in June, officially taking over senior politician Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok’s spot. Ahok at the time resigned from being Pertamina’s chief commissioner to support the campaign team of presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo.
Simon is also a senior official at President Prabowo Subianto’s Gerindra Party. He was also the deputy treasurer for Prabowo’s campaign team in the 2024 presidential election.
Monday’s shareholders meeting also picked retired high-ranking police officer Mochamad Iriawan as the company’s head commissioner. They also agreed on making Deputy SOE Minister Dony Askaria the deputy commissioner. Trisakti University’s oil alumni group head Raden Adjeng Sondaryani also became the new independent commissioner for Pertamina.
