Jakarta. Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) has reported sales of 35,000 units in 2023, marking an 18 percent growth compared to the same period last year, according to data from the Indonesian Motor Vehicle Industry Association (Gaikindo).

Budi Nur Mukmin, Chief Marketing Officer of HMID, attributed the sales surge to the success of their flagship model, the Stargazer, which experienced an outstanding 80.4 percent growth in 2023.

"Stargazer made a significant contribution from 2022 to 2023, expanding by 80 percent," Budi said on Tuesday.

In addition to the Stargazer, sales were also supported by the Creta model, securing the second-highest number of units sold.

"The majority of passenger car sales come from Stargazer and Creta," added Budi.

Hyundai has consistently witnessed positive sales growth since 2020, with sales figures of 200 units in 2020, 3,000 units in 2021, 30,000 units in 2022, and 35,000 units in 2023.

Among the top-selling models in 2023 were Stargazer, Creta, Ioniq 5, and Palisade. High sales were recorded in key areas such as Jakarta, Tangerang, Depok, Surabaya, and Bandung.

Looking ahead, Hyundai plans to introduce five new vehicle models in Indonesia in 2024, spanning both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) categories.

At present, Hyundai offers eight vehicle types in Indonesia, covering the SUV, multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), and electric vehicle segments. The company has increased the production capacity of the Ioniq 5 from 250 units in 2022 to 1,000 units per month in 2023.

Furthermore, Hyundai aims to open more dealerships, targeting 145 dealers in Indonesia by 2024.
