State Receipts Move Online For Efficiency
Jakarta. The government has launched the second generation of the state receipt system, known as MPN G-2, which provides a unique billing code per payment made by taxpayers, allowing for an easier administration process for taxpayers.
Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro said on Tuesday that the MPN G-2 was expected to ease the government’s job of minimizing data discrepancies between collected cash and tax invoices.
The easier data reconciliation is expected to help the government ensure that it is on track to secure its taxation revenue target, which this year is set at Rp 1,489 trillion ($117 billion), up 19 percent from last year.
“It needs a lot of work to achieve this. Including adopting the improvement of technology,” Bambang said.
The ministry has over the past two decades made efforts to improve the systems for revenue collection, including adopting technological advances in banking and payment systems.
The MPN concept was initially designed to create an integrated state-revenue receipt system that relies on a single database. Previously, collection of revenue was handled by three different departments within the Finance Ministry: tax, customs and excise, and budget.
With the MPN G-2, the system generates a unique billing code per payment made by taxpayers.
Taxpayers can then deposit tax payments at a designated bank or post office.
The MPN G-2 not only integrates the state revenue receipt system using one centrally administered database, but also helps corporate taxpayers smooth administration management, the Finance Ministry says.
The initiative is also expected to help boost Internet literacy in the country.
Bambang said potential users would need a tax number and an active e-mail address.
