Jakarta. Building infrastructure sustainably will remain a top priority for future government in both the medium and long term, according to Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati.

"The crucial question is not whether we need infrastructure but how we will build it sustainably," said Sri Mulyani at a press conference in Jakarta on Monday.

The ex-managing director of the World Bank highlighted that climate change stands as one of the most significant challenges. The effects of climate change contribute to a global temperature increase, with the average world temperature rising by 0.6 degrees Celsius since 2023.

"In 2020, Indonesia was identified as one of the countries with the highest temperature, reaching 27.8 degrees Celsius," said Sri Mulyani.

Sri Mulyani said that Indonesia's CO2 emissions are expected to rise along with the growth in income per capita, reaching approximately 3 tons of CO2 emissions per capita.

"We will continue to pay attention to this challenge, and we must see what needs to be done. Until now, and in the future, (sustainable) infrastructure will be crucial for Indonesia," she said.

Sri Mulyani said, that as an archipelagic country, Indonesia will face challenges in infrastructure development to facilitate the mobility of people, goods, and services throughout the country.
