Larantuka. Telekomunikasi Indonesia, the country's largest telecommunications company, launched its fixed and mobile broadband Internet services in Larantuka in East Nusa Tenggara's East Flores district on Thursday (19/05).
The launch of IndiHome and 4G LTE mobile broadband on Flores Island marks a milestone for Telkom, which now plans to provide coverage in all major towns on the island with either mobile or broadband services.
Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Rizal Ramli officiated the launch ceremony at the starting point of the inaugural Tour de Flores 2016 cycling race, which is expected to encourage tourism to the island.
"This is our part in supporting tourism and sports development in Indonesia," Telkom enterprise and business director Mohammad Awaluddin said in a statement.
Telkom provides broadband connections during each of the Tour de Flores stages and at the finishing line of each stage in Larantuka, Maumere, Ende, Bajawa, Ruteng and Labuan Bajo, respectively.
The 4G mobile services are also available in Larantuka, Labuan Baja and Komodo Port, while the other towns have 3G mobile coverage.
IndiHome is now available in some towns on the island but the company said it would launch additional services if there is sufficient demand.
