Jakarta. TransJakarta director Budi Kaliwono said his company will enhance safety measures at its terminals and bus shelters by installing metal detectors and security cameras.

"We have prepared metal detectors, and we plan to install them in several phases at our stations. We’ll see how it goes [...] we hope to be able to start installing them this week," Budi told Suara Pembaruan on Sunday (28/05).

The decision to enhance security measures at TransJakarta terminals comes after a twin suicide bombing at the Kampung Melayu bus station in East Jakarta last week.

The attack resulted in the deaths of three police officers and wounded 12 others.

Acting Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat, however, said metal detectors will not be installed at all TransJakarta shelters, but only at those considered to be "strategic locations" across the city.

"We are not trying to make it more complicated for passengers. This is to keep everyone safe [...] and the metal detectors will only be installed at strategic locations. It will not be possible to install them at all TransJakarta shelters," Djarot said.

The acting governor inspected the crime scene of last week’s bombing on Sunday and instructed city officials to renovate the station as quickly as possible.

Budi, who accompanied Djarot on his visit, said the bus station will reopen at 3 p.m. on Monday.
