Visi Media Asia Mulls New Sports Channel by March
Jakarta. Visi Media Asia, the listed media holding of Bakrie Group, plans to launch a free-to-air sports television station by March in an attempt to turn around its financial performance.
The TV station was previously scheduled to air in December but the company delayed launching as it prepared technical support, Visi Media's corporate secretary Neil Tobing said in a recent interview.
Visi Media has set aside just short of Rp 1 trillion ($71.5 million) for the station capital — operated by its unit Viva Sport Indonesia — and would seek to buy sport broadcasting licenses from several rights holders.
Neil declined to elaborate further on the detail of broadcasting rights.
Visi Media book a Rp 547 billion loss in the first nine months last year, flopping from Rp 118 billion profit in the same period a year earlier, due to loss in its foreign exchange transactions as depreciated against US dollar last year.
The company also controls free-to-air news channel TVOne, general viewer channel ANTV and online news website viva.co.id.
