GE Oil & Gas Awarded Contract to Supply 3rd Train at Tangguh LNG Plant
Jakarta. GE Oil & Gas, which is part of American diversified conglomerate General Electric, has been awarded a contract to supply gas turbine-driven compressors for the third train at the BP-operated Tangguh liquefied natural gas project in Indonesia's West Papua, the company said in a statement on Tuesday (15/09).
GE said the order for the third train equipment was placed by its local partner Imeco Inter Sarana.
The Tangguh LNG facility is currently being expanded to boost production by a further 3.8 million tons per annum, bringing the total plant capacity to 11.4 mtpa.
According to the plan, the bulk of the gas produced by the third liquefaction train will be allocated to supply Indonesia's domestic market. Southeast Asia's largest economy saw its energy consumption grow 3.9 percent last year, having nearly doubled over the past 15 years.
"The agreement to provide a third natural gas liquefaction train for Tangguh, nearly 15 years after the agreement to install the first two, is a reflection of the enduring performance of the existing plant machinery supplied by GE Oil & Gas," said Rod Christie, president and chief executive for turbomachinery solutions at GE Oil & Gas.
"The equipment similarity to the other two LNG trains and the single source of the entire shaft line are key factors that will enable smooth and optimized operation and maintenance of the plant.
"GE is committed to strengthening our partnership with the plant by bringing technology enhancements and maintaining the highest levels of performance from our equipment."
The components supplied by GE Oil & Gas for the Tangguh facility will be manufactured at the company's facilities in Greenville, South Carolina, and Florence, Italy, where the train will be assembled and load tested. GE said the equipment will be ready for shipment to Indonesia in mid-2018.
GE Oil and Gas has had a presence in Indonesia for more than 70 years, providing technology solutions for several large projects.
