Agus Martowardojo Questioned as Witness in Ongoing E-KTP Graft Case
Jakarta. Agus Martowardojo, a former finance minister and central bank governor, was questioned by corruption investigators on Friday, after he failed to show up on May 7.
He is a witness in the so-called e-KTP graft case involving former House of Representatives member and Golkar Party politician Markus Nari, who is now a suspect.
"The person concerned [Agus] will be questioned as a witness for the suspect, M.N.," Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesman Febri Diansyah said, referring to Markus by his initials.
Agus, wearing a long-sleeve batik shirt, was reluctant to comment on the investigation when he arrived at the KPK headquarters at around 9.30 a.m.
"I'll do it later, after the questioning," he said.
It was Agus, as finance minister at the time, who approved financing changes to the project, funded from the state budget, for the procurement of electronic national identity cards.
The e-KTP graft case has ensnared eight people so far, chief among them Setya Novanto, the former House of Representatives speaker and Golkar Party chairman. There are also two businessmen, Anang Sugiana Sudihardjo and Andi Agustinus a.k.a. Andi Narogong, who played an influential role in rigging the procurement process.
Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo was also questioned as a witness in the case on May 10.
Massive graft in the Rp 5.9 trillion ($408 million) project resulted in about Rp 2.3 trillion in state losses.
